Exquisite Poems

A Collaborative Poetry Project

About

What is it?

Exquisite Poetry is an online project initially inspired by the idea of Exquisite Corpse poetry. The purpose is to bring writers together to create a collaborative poem, one line at a time. Because why not?

There will be a set line limit for each poem. At this time, I will select and feature one line a week for you to respond to. New submissions for the poem’s next line will be considered upon selection and posting of the current line. If that sounds confusing, don’t worry. I will announce each open and close on the website & on social media.

Once the line limit it reached, the whole poem will be published, linking each line to its author. Then, we’ll start a new one!

I look forward to seeing how this project will build and shape and morph as we carry on. Submission guidelines and further information can be found in “Submit.”

(“I” is Heather Myers. Hello! I linked my website in the sidebar).

Other Inspiration and Links

The project and idea to try to do a virtual E.C. poem would not be possible without a few inspirations:

Why the Exquisite Corpse Works (something I read before teaching the exquisite corpse for the first time)

A Conversation With Mary Ann Samyn (who taught me the power of considering one line at a time).

Paige Blair on the Exquisite Corpse (this inspired me to consider adding a teaching portion for the project).

& it’s worth mentioning I did the drawing version of an Exquisite Corpse, facilitated by an artist named Hilari Oller in Denton, TX during one of her Art on the Patio gatherings. This was also great fun and full of creativity.

If there’s other links I could add on collaborative forms, or for any other questions, reach out and let me know: exquisitepoemsproject@gmail.com
